Ancient and modern villa – Sant’Ilario
The restoration of the historic building has been done maintaining the exterior shell, height, and architectural character, while renovating the interior to create six luxury residences with stunning sea views and outdoor gardens planted with native trees. The solid volume of the villa is painted with a continuous base that echoes the adjacent historic wall, a decorated elevation, and a hipped roof; this horizontal tripartite structure is linked by hierarchical windows that punctuate the façade.
The modern villa replaces a pre-existing, disrupted building: built with a rationalist approach and linear forms, it features an exterior shell clad on three sides with natural stone to integrate it into the surrounding landscape and walls, and a glass façade facing the sea to convey transparency and lightness.
The historic and modern villas coexist in a harmonious contrast of solid and transparent elements. The planted garden maintains ancient alignments, historic walls and hides an underground car park to maintain the natural character of the landscape context.
