Modular office and train depot, Drogheda, Dublin

The new building was constructed on the site of the previous prefabricated structure and consists of a two-floor modular building made from steel containers. It was designed to allow the future addition of a third floor without requiring significant structural modifications.

The design was developed to create a flexible, expandable, and relocatable modular building that meets structural and fire safety requirements, while ensuring the durability of the materials and finishes.

The project also complies with railway safety clearance requirements, incorporates train derailment protection measures, provides full accessibility for people with disabilities, and features a functional internal layout.

Particular attention was given to user comfort through the provision of natural daylight, thermal and acoustic insulation, wide external views, and an architectural design that reflects the simple and modular nature of the steel container system.

The project involves the requalification of the railway depot at Drogheda MacBride Station in Dublin and includes three main interventions: the structural upgrade of the train maintenance depot, the construction of a new train parts storage area and the construction of a new office building.
